The Bobby Socks Trees Of Yellowstone
A stand of dead lodgepole pines known a the "bobby socks" in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. These trees died long ago when the course of spring water changed and flooded them, but the minerals (particularly silica) they soaked up as they died has strengthened them, keeping them standing long after they should have rotted and fallen.
