Paadiha

Paadiha

A massive 7x7 bull elk in Yellowstone, still sporting his massive antlers even in late February, likely to shed them any day at this point. The name "wapiti" is famously known as a Native word for elk, which has Shawnee and Cree origins, from modern day Canada and the American northeast respectively. The Yellowstone region however was once cared for by other people, particularly the Shoshone. The Shoshone had a few dialects but one word they used for elk was "paadiha".
