Ferdinand

Ferdinand

A bison calf in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, warming up in the sun and smelling the flowers. Calves have a very distinctive, bright rust color, which darkens with age. Very protective mothers, bison need to defend their calves mostly from wolves, but also from brown bears, mountain lions, and potentially from extra-brave coyotes. Have you ever heard The Story of Ferdinand? It's a children's book from 1936, and my favorite, about a bull who would rather sit and smell the flowers than fight in bullfights. If you've never read it, I highly recommend it.
