Ram and Ewe

Ram and Ewe

Bighorn sheep ram and ewe, near Wapiti, Wyoming, in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. It amazes me that just 200 years ago, bighorn sheep had an estimated population of over 2 million. But just after 100 years (by the year 1900) hunting, habitat loss due to ranching, and disease from domestic animals caused their population to drop to as low as several thousand. They’ve since made a bit of a comeback with human help and protection, but it never ceases to amaze me how callous humans have historically been, and still are in some cases, towards wildlife.
